Ghanaian National Evangeline Dahamani (Eva) Appointed Rotating Chairperson of Beijing Intangible Cultural Heritage Inheritance and Dissemination Working Committee

Recently, the Beijing Intangible Cultural Heritage Inheritance and Cultural Dissemination Working Committee officially issued an appointment announcement. Ms. Evangeline Dahamani (Eva for short), a renowned international expert in the field of intangible cultural heritage (ICH) and a senior artist at the Ghana Cultural Center, has been successfully appointed as the rotating chairperson of the committee, with a term from October 30, 2025 to October 30, 2026. At the appointment ceremony, Ms. Liu Shuang, Chairperson of the Beijing Intangible Cultural Heritage Inheritance and Cultural Dissemination Working Committee, personally presented the letter of appointment to Evangeline Dahamani, witnessing this cross-border cultural cooperation moment. This transnational appointment not only injects diverse vitality into the international dissemination of Beijing's ICH but also builds a new bridge for in-depth mutual learning between Chinese and African cultural heritage, serving as a vivid practice of cultural exchange between China and foreign countries in the new era.

Ms. Liu Shuang stated at the appointment ceremony that ICH is an important carrier of national cultural genes and a core bridge for civilizational mutual learning. The decision to appoint international ICH expert Evangeline Dahamani as rotating chairperson is a key measure for the committee to implement the "internationalization, youthfulness, and diversification" dissemination strategy of ICH. It also represents a concrete practice of Beijing, as an international exchange center, taking the initiative to build a platform for cultural exchange between China and foreign countries.

In her inauguration speech after receiving the appointment letter, Evangeline Dahamani expressed her honor and expectation for this position. She said that Chinese and African cultures have a natural sense of affinity and complementarity. The exquisite craftsmanship and profound cultural heritage of Beijing's ICH have left a deep impression on her, while the creativity and vitality contained in African traditional crafts are equally worthy of being seen by the world. "This appointment is not only a responsibility but also a mission for me."

Evangeline Dahamani revealed that in the coming year, she will leverage her cross-cultural advantages to focus on promoting three core tasks:

First, establish a regular exchange platform for Chinese and African ICH inheritors, organizing mutual visits, research studies, and skill exchanges among ICH masters from Beijing, Ghana, and other African countries.

Second, build a multilingual and multi-channel ICH communication matrix, interpreting the cultural connotations and production processes of Beijing's ICH craftsmanship in an international context through new media formats such as short videos, podcasts, and online live broadcasts.

Third, launch the "China-Africa ICH Co-Creation Program," promoting the creative integration of Beijing's ICH techniques with African traditional crafts such as wood carving, braiding, and fabric dyeing, and launching innovative works that embody the cultural characteristics of both regions, allowing Chinese and African cultures to spark new vitality through interaction.

Evangeline Dahamani's tenure will further bridge the "last mile" of China-Africa ICH exchanges, transforming cultural mutual learning from one-way display to two-way co-creation. With the implementation of various cooperation initiatives, Beijing's ICH will gain broader international dissemination space, while African traditional crafts will enter the public view in China through this platform, injecting profound cultural strength into building a closer China-Africa Community with a Shared Future.
